Minimum tread depth
For the cars, trucks and motorcycles in Europe, the minimum tyre depth is
1.6 mm. This minimum has to be present on the whole tyre. When this depth is reached, the braking distance will increase on wet roads, and the risk of aquaplaning also increases. The braking distance is double compared to a new tyre.
For safety reasons, summer tyres should be replaced when the minimum tread depth reaches
2 mm, winter and wide tires at
4 mm.
