Gearbox

As every engine delivers its power (KW and torque) at a certain speed, which is always between the idling speed (approx. 600 rpm) and the maximum speed (approx. 6,500 rpm), it would be rather uncomfortable to drive without a gearbox. This would be roughly equivalent to driving exclusively in first gear. What this would mean needs no further explanation. The engine can only be properly utilised with a gearbox. The different gear ratios of the individual gear steps allow you to start off and reach an appropriate cruising speed, with all the variations in between. At different speeds and in different driving conditions (flat, uphill, downhill), the engine can always operate in its most favourable speed range, and the gearbox also makes it possible to reverse.
