To satisfy motorcyclist demand for a safe, enjoyable riding experience, Michelin has developed a unique, comprehensive offering for 2012 that comprises the new MICHELIN Power Cup range of motorcycle tires and two events where the tires can be used in a specially adapted environment.
Designed to deliver outstanding grip when cornering and accelerating, the MICHELIN Power Cup tire helps to improve lap times on the track compared with its predecessor, the MICHELIN Power One Competition. The front tire provides maneuverability, stability and progressive responsiveness, especially when braking, while the rear tire improves grip when cornering without sacrificing tread longevity. In this way it delivers the balanced performance that is characteristic of all MICHELIN tires. Three qualities are featured simultaneously: easy handling, grip and consistent performance throughout the tire’s life.
Approved for road use, the MICHELIN Power Cup is intended for both professional and amateur riders. To enable them to use their tires effectively and get the most out of their performance features, Michelin has launched two events for circuit riding: a new-formula MICHELIN power cup championship and a new event called MICHELIN power days.
“The MICHELIN power cup focuses on sports performance and a spirit of friendly competition,” says Yvan Gomba, head of Motorcycle Tire Marketing and Sales for France and the Benelux countries. “Open to amateurs of all levels, it also gives riders an opportunity to take advantage of Michelin's technological skills and expertise.”
For this fifth running of the event, the MICHELIN power cup has been expanded. In addition to the 600cc, 1000cc and Open speed categories, Michelin has added two new categories:
Newbee for real beginners on 600cc to 1000cc bikes.
Endurance, a four-hour race for two riders with one or two bikes and 1000cc, 600cc, Twin and Lady rankings.
Another feature is that riders can now sign up for one or more races without having to commit themselves for the entire season.
MICHELIN power days is a totally unique training program open to motorcyclists who want to take part in supervised, structured circuit riding sessions.
Three instructors will attend each event to support participants on the track and lead technical workshops. MICHELIN power days offer riders a safe, enjoyable, friendly experience on a carefully planned budget.
